The passkey module is a security device that recognizes the correct key. If the module is damaged or defective, it may not be able to verify that the key inserted is correct.

Symptoms

Engine Won't Start

If the passkey module cannot recognize the vehicle key, it will prevent the vehicle from being started.

Theft System Warning Light is On

The the module has failed, the dashboard indicator light, such as "Theft System" or "Security", may be illuminated to inform the driver that there is a problem with the theft deterrent system.
