Vehicle has a short
The battery is usually grounded to the metal of the vehicle. If there is a short circuit in the vehicle, the electricity will continuously flow from the battery and can cause excess heat within the battery or other parts of the vehicle. A short in the vehicle may prevent starting and could drain the battery completely.

Battery Loses Charge Quickly
A short circuit in the vehicle will draw power from the battery. For example, if the short circuit occurs between the headlights and battery, the electrical current will leave the battery, bypass the headlights, pass through the short circuit and return to the battery.
