Upper oil passages restricted or plugged

The upper oil passages are the channels through which the oil circulates in the engine before returning to the oil pan. If these passages are restricted or plugged, the flow of oil can be inhibited. The oil may not reach the various engine parts in a timely manner. The oil pressure in the system may build as the oil pump continues to draw oil and push it through the system. This can result in a perpetually high reading on the oil gauge.

Symptoms

Oil Gauge is Always High

A restriction in the upper oil passages can prevent the oil from flowing through. This will create a backup of oil, and the pressure can build. This will register in the oil pressure gauge, and may be a signal that the engine is not receiving enough oil.
