Throttle lever is sticking

The throttle lever is the device that moves the throttle valve. It is attached to the accelerator cable and gas pedal. If the lever is sticking or its movement is otherwise hindered, the gas pedal may be hard to press or get stuck.

Symptoms

Gas Pedal is Hard to Push

A build up of dirt or other contaminates on the throttle lever will increase its friction. This will cause greater resistance in its movement. When the gas pedal is pushed, and the cable pulls the lever, the friction slows the ease of lever movement. This will make the gas pedal harder to push so that it over comes the additional friction.

Gas Pedal Gets Stuck

If enough contaminates build, the throttle lever may get stuck in some positions. This will prevent the gas pedal from returning to its starting point, or allow movement beyond a specific point.
