MAP Sensor Malfunction

A malfunction in the MAP sensor will send the wrong information to the ECU. Using the information, the ECU will adjust fuel/air ratio incorrectly. This can cause stalling or backfiring especially during changes in engine load.

Table of Contents

Symptoms

Engine Stalls

A malfunction in the MAP sensor may fail to signal an increase in the engine load. This will prevent the ECU from adding more fuel to the air during acceleration or heavier engine loads.

The malfunction may also add excess fuel during normal or light loads, flooding the engine.

Engine Backfires

A malfunctioning MAP may also send the signal at the wrong time. This can cause excess fuel to be put into the system. The engine may backfire during acceleration.
