Defective rear defroster switch

The rear defroster switch is the button pressed to activate the rear defroster. If the switch is defective, the driver will be unable to activate the defroster. The switch initiates the defroster relay to complete the electrical circuit. If this cannot be done, the current cannot reach the defroster coils.

Symptoms

Rear Defroster Doesn't Work

Since the switch establishes the completion of the defroster circuit, if it is defective, the driver will be unable to activate the defroster. The switch may become loose in its frame, or have little resistance when pressed.

Some switches have lights either on them, or on the dashboard. If these lights are no illuminating when the switch it pressed, the switch may be defective.

Rear Defroster Turns Off Immediately

If the defroster turns off once the switch has been released, it may be defective. The switch will return to its starting position immediately after pressure is removed from it. This will terminate the circuit every time the switch is released.
