Brake pedal not fully returning

The brake pedal has a set position plus a certain amount of free play. Beyond that, the pedal activates the brake system. If the pedal does not return to its original position, the brakes may be applied during normal driving or the brake lights will stay on.

Causes

Low Brake Fluid

Since the brake system works under hydraulic pressure, low brake fluid can prevent the pedal from returning to its starting point.

Bent or Damage Brake Linkage

A damaged or bent part of the brake linkage may stop the full motion of the brake pedal.
