Manual Transmission
A manual transmission is a style of transmission where the driver has direct control over the changing of gears. Automobiles with a manual transmission have a clutch pedal that disengages the gears in the transmission from the crankshaft. The driver, or passenger if the driver is feeling adventurous, changes the gears using the shifter, which is a stick located between the driver and passenger seats. Manual transmissions are sometimes referred to as "stick shifts", or simply a "stick".
