Dipstick

A dipstick is a metal stick that is stored inside a liquid container which is used to measure the level of the liquid. To take an accurate measurement, the dipstick is withdrawn, wiped, and reinserted. There are notches on the dipstick that indicate the appropriate levels of the liquid. Dipsticks for oil, transmission fluid and power-steering fluid are common.
