One of the interior light switches is worn or loose in its mount

The interior lights are activated by switches usually housed in the between the car body and doors. When the doors are closed, the switch is pressed and the lights go off. If a switch is worn or loose, it may not be making the correct contact with the door to deactivate. This can keep the interior lights on even when the doors are closed.
