Low fuel pressure

The fuel system requires a certain pressure to deliver the appropriate amount of fuel. The fuel must be drawn from the tank, which is generally lower than the engine, and pumped through the fuel lines to the intake manifold.

Symptoms

Engine Stalls

The engine stalling is usually a result of lack of fuel or air, or a defect in the ignition system. If the fuel pressure is low, the engine will not receive enough fuel to maintain operation.

Causes

Defective Fuel Pump

The fuel pump draws fuel from the fuel tank. If it is no longer functioning properly, the required amount of fuel will not reach the engine.

See defective fuel pump.

Clogged Fuel Filter

The fuel filter removes impurities from the fuel before it reaches the engine. If the filter is clogged or otherwise restricted, the flow of fuel will be slowed. This will cause less fuel to reach the engine at the appropriate time.
