Irregular Tire Wear

During normal driving, tires are designed to wear out evenly. Irregular tire wear, such as cupping or chopping, can cause noise like grinding or rubbing while driving.

Wheels Make Noise While Driving

Noise coming from the wheels can be caused by a number of problems. If the noise is a squeak, it is likely from the brakes. If it is a hard grinding, it may be from the bearings. If the sound is a muffled, repetitive, thumping sound that increases with acceleration, the sound may come from irregular tire wear.

Comparing the tire at source of the sound to the others that are not making a sound can help determine this. If the tires appear to have different levels or types of wear, odds are the variation is producing a sound as it travels.
