Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve

The exhaust gas recirculation valve, or EGR valve, is a valve that allows exhaust gases into the intake manifold. The gases will mix with the fuel/air mixture and be burned. This will help reduce emissions, specifically nitrogen oxide. The EGR valve usually operates at higher engine temperatures, when the engine is at a point where it produces nitrogen oxide. The introduction of the nitrogen oxide lowers the operating temperature of the engine, thus reducing the overall level of nitrogen oxide.
