Excess fuel in the system

The engine runs on a specific proportion fuel and air depending on factors like speed and humidity. If more fuel enters the combustion chamber, the ignition will produce an inefficient burn. This will cause a reduction in power, and black smoke to exit the exhaust as the fuel is burned.
