How to Clean Battery Terminals

Checking your battery connections so that your car is getting the juice it needs to run properly is easy and only takes a few minutes.

Difficulty: VERY EASY
Warnings

Make sure vehicle is off

Dont touch the terminals to its counterpart

Careful of battery acid

Tools/Equipment Needed

wrench

wire brush

water/baking soda solution

corrosion removal fluid


Step 1: Remove battery cables

Remove your battery cables, starting with the negative terminal first.

Step 2: Clean terminal posts

Clean the terminal posts using a wire brush and corrosion removal tool. Save money and make your own mixture using a water and baking soda solution.

Step 3: Rinse terminals

Rinse the terminals with water and dry with a rag.

Step 4: Reinstall battery cables

Re-install your battery cables starting with the positive one first.
