No Reason to Change the Oil Every 3,000 Miles - NYTimes.com

Cars made in the last 7 or 8 years and earlier do not necessarily require an oil change every 3,000 miles. Changes in engine technology and oil chemistry have improved the durability of lubrication that make oil changes every 7,500-10,000 miles the better practice.
