More Bald Eagles Dying on Michigan Roads

The number of bald eagles dying on Michigan roads has risen over the past six years. During winter, when lakes freeze, the eagles rely more on scavenging along roads, targeting roadkill. As the eagle feeds, traffic that approaches can startle it, causing it to fly off into oncoming traffic.
