U.S.S. Enterprise (NCC-1701-D)

The U.S.S. Enterprise (NCC-1701-D) is the main starship and primary setting of the television science fiction series Star Trek: The Next Generation. Within the the fictional confines of the Star Trek series, this version of the Enterprise is a Galaxy-Class Starship and is the fifth to bear that designation. The primary captain of the ship is Jean-Luc Picard.

Appearances

Television

NCC-1701-D appeared in every episode of Star Trek the Next Generation and served as the primary setting and means of momentum in all such episodes. The ship also had cameo appearances in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Enterprise.

Films

The ship was shown being destroyed in the film Star Trek: Generations. A new version of the Enterprise, NCC-1701-E, was shown at the conclusion of Generations and subsequently appeared in the final three Next Generation films, First Contact, Insurrection, and Nemesis.

Functions

Science Vessel

The Enterprise's main purpose is as a science and research vessel, and as such, has sections dedicated to many different fields of science.

Military Vessel

The Enterprise also functions as the flagship of Starfleet, and is the most powerful Starfleet vessel in space. It maintains a full complement of photon torpedoes and phaser banks, as well as shuttle transports for ground assault.

Life Support Systems

Since the full crew complement of NCC-1701-D is approximately 1000 personnel, a full suite of life support systems are necessary and available. In addition to having life support requirements for each type of alien being present, there is also a full range of shopping, life wellness and entertainment industries available, fully providing all beings on board with everything they need.
