Throttle valve has a build up

The throttle valve is the part of the throttle that controls how much air enters the engine. If the valve has a build up, it can cause the valve to stick or not close all the way.

Symptoms

Gas Pedal Gets Stuck

The gas pedal controls the movement of the throttle valve. If the valve has a build up to the point where it gets stuck, the gas pedal can get stuck along with it. The pedal may not fully return to the starting position as the valve does not close. The pedal may also only be pressed a certain distance before the build up creates enough friction to prevent the valve from opening any further.

Engine Stalls

If the throttle remains open during idle, the engine may receive too much air, causing an uncontrollable high idle.

Causes

Leaking Intake Valve

A worn intake valve can fail to seal the combustion chamber. This can cause exhaust gases and fuel to leak into the intake manifold. Over time, these particles can make their way to the throttle valve and collect.

Defective Air Cleaner

A defective air cleaner can allow dirt or other contaminates into the engine. As the air passes the throttle valve, small particles can coalesce on the valve and grow over time.
