Starter motor locked up

The starter motor turns the crankshaft to start the engine. If the starter is locked up, the crankshaft will not be turned when the key is turned.

Engine Won't Start

If the engine will not start, the starter motor may be to blame. The first thing to check is whether or not things like the interior lights and dashboard indicators light up when the key is turned to the "on" position. If they don't light up, the battery may be dead.

If the battery is fine, listen to the sound the engine makes when trying to start. If the engine does not make any sound, or makes a single click, the starter motor may be locked up.
