Loose exhaust parts

A loose part in the exhaust system can cause a rattling noise while driving. The motion of the car over bumps and around corners can accentuate a rattling sound by giving the loose parts more momentum to collide with other parts.

Muffler Makes a Rattling Noise

Loose parts can cause noises as they hit other parts. If the noise from the muffler is constant, the cause may be broken muffler baffles. If the sound increases on bumpy roads, or coming out of a corner, the problem may be loose parts. As the force of movement stops, the momentum of the parts is not immediately slowed. This will cause the part to sway back and forth, hitting other parts, as the momentum dissipates.
