Door handle is broken

A broken door handle will prevent the door from being opened. The handle can be broken in a few places. The handle may be broken at the point where it pivots. This will prevent the cable or rod attached to the latch from being released. The handle may also be detached from the cable or rod. This will prevent the release of the latch when the handle is pulled.

Symptoms

Door Will Not Open

If the door will not open, the handle may be broken. If the handle still has tension when it is pulled, the problem may lie with the door latch.

Door Handle Feels Loose

A broken door handle may also not be sitting properly in its frame. This will cause the handle to feel or sound loose. There may also be a greater amount of movement before the handle releases the latch.
