A defective oil sensor will misread the oil level. This can lead to either a failure to notify the driver of a low oil level, or trigger an indicator light when the oil level is sufficient. See oil is low.

Symptoms

Low Oil Light Comes On

If there is a defect in the oil sensor, the oil indicator light may come on when there is no problem. This is the "Low Oil" light, which warns of low oil levels. Additionally, the light may fail to illuminate when the oil level is too low.
