Defective brake light switch

The brake light switch is a button like switch near the brake pedal. When the brake pedal is pressed, the switch is activated and the brakes light up. If the switch is stuck or otherwise inoperable, other drivers will not be able to see that you are braking.

There are a few reasons your brake lights won't light up. If the bulbs are working and both brake lights do not light up, the brake light switch may be the culprit.
